Reasons to change an active voice into a passive voice.

  1. When the Doer is not known.
  2. When the receiver is more important than the doer.
  3. When we want to hide the agent of the action.

EX.

When the teacher came into the class the glasses were broken. In this sentence, the doer is not known. We do not know who has done the action. But we do know only the action. Or if we give more importance to the action like the king was kidnapped. Now we are not concerned about the kidnapper, the king is more important to us. So we use passive voice. Or sometime in the class our best friend will break the window’s glasses. So all the students know about him/her but want to show it to the teacher they hide him/her. Then we use passive voice.

what is present indefinite tense? what is the simple present tense?

Active voice:

An active voice generally consists of subject + Helping verb (auxiliary verb+) + main verb + object/complement. In active voice, the subject acts or we talk about it in the sentence. There won’t be any limited formation. For example:

  • She plays football.
  • She flees.
  • They went.
  • We drive the car.
  • You can swim.
  • The driver is dangerous.
  • John and Khan are intelligent.
  • All the players are kind.
  • We could fight with them on the ground.
  • On the ground, we met him.

Passive voice:

A passive voice is slightly different from an active voice. We cannot change all the sentences into passive voice. The sentence which contains complements is not changeable. I like to leave it on the ground.

In the above sentence, we don’t have a direct object but instead, there is a complement phrase “In the ground.”

We can not change these sentences into passive Voice.

Intransitive verbs are not changeable into passive voice. What’s an intransitive verb: all those verbs which do not need an object. Like she went. They cried. He flew.

Transitive and intransitive verbs.

Transitive verbs:  All those verbs which are needy of the object. It means without objects they do not make complete sense.

Ex.

  • He plays football.
  • She wrote a letter.
  • They are watching a movie.
  • You can win the game.
  • I am listening to music.

Intransitive verb:

All those verbs do not need an object. Without objects, they can give complete sense.

Ex.

  • He went.
  • She cried.
  • It flies.
